From Taichung HSR Station
If you arrive by Taiwan High Speed Rail, HSR Taichung Station → Tunghai University by taxi/Uber is probably the simplest option.
- Taxi: roughly 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.
- Tell the driver: 「東海大學」 (Dōnghǎi Dàxué).
- For a specific building, give the building name in addition to the university name.
- Public transportation is possible, but if you have luggage, the taxi is considerably less hassle.
The important point is that Tunghai is not next to the HSR station; it is on the western side of Taichung.
From Taichung Railway Station
Again, a taxi is the easiest:
Taichung Station → Tunghai University: approximately 25–35 minutes, depending on traffic.
From Taichung Airport
Tunghai is actually quite convenient from Taichung International Airport.
Airport → Tunghai University: approximately 20–30 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic.
If you’re coming internationally and have luggage, I’d take a taxi rather than trying to navigate the buses.
Accommodations
1. The Howard Prince Hotel Taichung
This is the one I’d recommend to most conference attendees.
It is on Anhe Road, very close to Tunghai. Current listings put it at about 1.2 km from the university, with some hotel listings giving roughly 2.2 km depending on the reference point.
It is a proper full-service business hotel, with restaurants, fitness facilities and a sauna. It is also only about a 5-minute drive from Fengjia Night Market.
2. Windsor Hotel Taichung
Windsor is about 2.0–2.2 km from Tunghai, and is a more upscale five-star-style property. Current listings give it excellent guest ratings around 9.1–9.2/10.
It also has a fitness center, indoor pool and sauna.
3. INNK Hotel
INNK is in Fengjia, which is probably the most interesting area for a visitor who wants restaurants, cafés and the night market after the conference.
The Taichung International Exhibition Center’s accommodation guide also lists INNK as an accommodation option in Fengjia.
4. Divecube Hotel Taichung
Divecube is only about 1.6–2.0 km from Tunghai and is considerably less expensive than the two major hotels above. Current listings give it a guest rating around 8.2–8.3/10.
5. La Vida Hotel
La Vida is in the Fengjia area, close to Fengjia’s commercial district. It is about 4.3 km from Tunghai, so I’d regard this as a taxi hotel rather than a walk-to-campus hotel.
The advantage is that you’re staying in a lively area with plenty of places to eat after the conference.
