This site introduces the international conference on the SMILE Project and Intercultural Communication Education (SPICE), which will be held on February 7th, 2026, at Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand, and the International Workshop Initiative for Teachers (I-WIT), which will be held on February 6th and 7th, 2026, in Nakhon Pathom and Bangkok, Thailand. The SPICE conference and the I-WIT are hosted by workshop initiatives on language learning (WILL) and co-sponsored.

SPICE 2026

SPICE 2026 is the sixth international conference focusing on intercultural communication and foreign language education, the utilization of ICT, and the development of new educational programs. The main objective of SPICE is to bring together researchers and teachers from language and communication education to encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences. The SPICE conference seeks original contributions in all relevant areas, including but not limited to the following topics.

  • International and Intercultural Communication Education
  • International and Intercultural Cooperative Studies
  • Online Communication Activities and Classes
  • Ideas and Practices of Global Education
  • Practical Language Education Among Learners with Diverse Language and Cultural Backgrounds
  • Project-Based Learning and Language Education
  • Application Programs for Intercultural Understanding
  • Pedagogical Methods for Global Communication Education
  • Observation and Formative Feedback in Online Courses
  • ICT-based Data Collection Through Online Courses

The main event is the practical reports from the international collaborative pairs of “the SMILE1 project” implemented from March 2025 to January 2026. Previous meetings were held as follows:

  • SPICE 2025 was held at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and online.
  • SPICE 2024 was held at National Kaohsiung Normal University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and online.
  • SPICE 2023 was held at Chuo University, Tokyo, Japan, and online.
  • SPICE 2022 was held online.
  • SPICE 2021 was held online.

I-WIT 2026

I-WIT 2026 is the third International Workshop Initiative for Teachers, in which participants from Japan and other countries will share their experiences with local high school teachers. Teachers from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, and other countries are warmly invited and encouraged to attend. The workshop will be conducted primarily in English, with support available in Japanese when necessary.

Previous meetings were held as follows:

  • I-WIT 2025 was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
  • I-WIT 2024 was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Find your way from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Thammasat University Tha Prachan Campus as follows:

  1. Take an ARL train from the airport and get off at Makkasan station.
  2. Transfer to the metro (MRT) and board the south-bound (Sukhumvit-bound) train.
  3. Get off the metro at Sanam Chai station and take a walk or take a taxi to the campus.

You can also ride a train from Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok and MRT, BTS, or a taxi from the station to Thammasat University.

If you need to cancel, please email the Conference Help Desk ( office at kotoba-kobo.jp ) by the day before the conference.
If you cancel up to the day before the conference, you will receive a full refund, minus bank operational fees. No refunds will be made for cancellations on or after the conference day.
Please note that participation fees will not be refunded if the conference is canceled for reasons beyond the Society’s control.
